Among the german cities, Munich is the city of art, culture and "joie de vivre".  
Important museums, numerous art-exhibitions, theater, the bavarian state opera, the festival performences with Wagner and Mozart and last but not least the "Oktoberfest" every year in october. 
Munich was founded in 1158 and is the capitol of Bavaria. If you go there, visit the castle of Nymphenburg. This was the summer residence for the bavarian kings and electors and was built in 1734-38. Also worth a visit is the "Deutshe Museum", but bring enough time wih you for this one!
